• Notes

  Some debate exists on the maiden name of Jane Ray (wife of Andrew Ray). Some records point to Jane Smither(s) (DOB unknown), who married Samuel Tennell in 1808 in Nelson County, Kentucky. The marriage certificate clearly lists Thomas Smither as her father. William Tennell's probate records list Jane as his daughter and Andrew as her husband in 1935-1940 in Marion County, Missouri. This Jane appears to have been born about 1790/1795. There appears to have been a migration of Tennells from Nelson County Kentucky to Marion County, Missouri. This resulted in multiple William Tennells and Jane Tennells in the area, either by birth or migration. While it is likely they are related, it does not appear to me that these two Janes are the same person and that there is no "Jane Smither Tennell Ray," but rather a Jane Smither Tennell (DOB unknown) and a Jane Tennell Ray (DOB abt 1795). There is no evidence that establishes or even indicates that it is the same person.
